Crème de la Crème

January 9th, 2010

4Crème de la Crème roses for a special birthday lady who has always been a role model to me, professionally (if only I wanted to be a Principal) and personally. She always strives to be the best of the best.

It’s an incredible joy to come across individuals who are committed to excellence in every aspect of their lives. Their example motivates others, as well as reminds us that we have the ability and strength to succeed in life despite of the roadblocks or limitations set in our paths.

So it was my pleasure to create a special birthday arrangement requested by my two wonderful secretaries at work (I couldn’t function without them!). This alone is such a great testament to a special lady. We haven’t worked with her  for the last five years, yet she is thought of with much affection and respect.

To tell the truth, I was a little nervous. Really! First, I couldn’t decide on a color scheme. Then, I thought, “What if it’s not nice enough?’ THE PRESSURE!

As always, when in doubt, I STOP THINKING! Which isn’t very difficult to do ;) . Instead, I just select what looks pretty at the Flower Mart, not paying much attention to names or flower type.

Selecting the flowers, creating the arrangement and delivering went well.

Then I started worrying about a title for this blog….blank, blank, BLANK! Again, I stopped thinking and instead I started researching the flowers I had incorporated into the design.

The title came to me as soon as I realized what I had purchased…Crème de la Crème roses! Isn’t it just so appropriate. I couldn’t have planned this, even if I had wanted to.

PROOF! We are inspired by forces (other individuals and a Universal Entity) greater than ourselves and we need to learn to trust in our abilities and strengths. We should become Crème de la Crème , the best of the best, in our fields of  choice.

A Little Bit About The Flowers

Crème de la Crème Roses; one of the newest varieties available in the flower market. This Ecuadorian rose is a soft buttery yellow  flower which opens into an eye-pleasing cup-shaped bloom. The large flower head contrasts beautifully against its dark green foliage, and makes a lovely addition to a wedding bouquet, table centerpiece or flower arrangement. Just take a look at my design!

Viburnum  can be mistaken as a green hydrangea, but it’s not referred to by the same name. The flowering crown is a lot smaller than a hydrangea, making it more delicate looking and manageable in arrangements.

Forsythia is a flowering branch of medium height. The small, tiny white blooms resemble stars.

The ABC’s of love…A is for Alejandra

December 9th, 2009

SGP_bravojuarez_0659“When God created teachers,

He gave us special friends

To help us understand His world

And truly comprehend

The beauty and the wonder

Of everything we see,

And become a better person

With each discovery”

Kevin William Huff

Through the years, I have been blessed and honored to work with wonderful and inspiring teachers. We have shared ideas, friendship, gossip and many memorable events.  They are truly special friends and have helped me grow and become a better person.

One of these friends is Alejandra.SGP_bravojuarez_0183

We (teacher friends) are very happy that she married the love of her life, Julian, and did it in such a GRAND way.

From our first meeting, in her classroom, Alenjandra had a romantic and lush vision of reds, burgundies and ivory florals for her wedding. The planning process with Alejandra and Julian was certainly a unique experience. Not only did I get to plan with Alejandra, but I also had the wonderful opportunity of  working with Julian.

Now, grooms are seldom interested in flowers and usually leave the details of the wedding day to the bride. Julian is the exception and was very involved and extremely resourceful. He was able to connect me directly with Delta Flowers. They distribute flowers to ALL major supermarkets in Southern California. I’m sure you’ve seen their arrangements and bouquets when you go grocery shopping.  Delta Flowers provided the flowers at below wholesale prices as a favor to Julian’s aunt. Can you believe it? I had to pinch myself!

Every detail of Alejandra and Julian’s wedding was spectacular. The centerpieces were exquisite and reflected the sophistication of the venue at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel.  Alejandra was stunning on her wedding day and handled her rose, lily and orchid bouquet with much grace and style. Both groom and bride exuded happiness and their love, for all their guest to admire.

The splendor of their wedding day was captured by photographer Stephen Grant. He captured the true feelings of the day and has put together a GREAT slide show at www.stephengrantphotography.blogspot.com . Take a look! He and his wife were very nice the day of the wedding and gracious enough to provide the images for my blog. Aren’t they just amazing?

Alejandra and Julian’s love story continues and I’m sure one day soon we will hear….

B is for babies!
